The Washoe County School District or WCSD in Washoe County, Nevada is a public in school district with over 63,000 students enrolled. It covers areas and cities in Reno, Sparks, Verdi, Incline Village, Gerlach, Empire and Wadsworth. It claims the place of the second largest school in the State of Nevada.
Also, the Washoe County School District is comprised of 64 elementary schools, 15 middle schools, 12 comprehensive high schools, a special education school, Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) High School, Washoe High School (an alternative school) and the Regional Technical Institute.
The Superintendent for the school district is appointed by the Board of Trustees, who meets thrice a month to discuss on separate meetings, planning and budget; performance monitoring; and regular business meeting. The Washoe County School District also had their fair share of awards and academic recognitions; five of its schools were named in the Newsweek magazine’s top 737 American High Schools. Out of 16 Nevada schools, there were 12 schools from the Washoe County School District named as ‘exemplary schools’ by the Nevada Department of Education. They also received the “2003 What Parents Want” award from School Match, corresponding to what most parents are looking for when selecting schools for their children or in choosing school districts. |
