Elk Grove Unified School District or EGUSD is located at Southern Sacramento County in the state of California, USA. The school district covers 320 square miles. It stretches from the Sacramento River until the foothills of Amador County. It is the largest school district in North California. It is also the fifth largest school district in the whole state of California. This school district is a top-performing district that is recognized throughout California.
The unification of smaller districts in the 19th Century resulted the founding of this school district. This took place in 1959 under the supervision of County Superintendent T.R. Smedberg. Smedberg is a former superintendent of “Elk Grove Union High School District”. Elk Grove, Sierra-Enterprise, Cosumnes, Dillard, Franklin, Pleasant Grove and Florin are among the elementary schools which unified with the high school district.
The EGUSD has a total of sixty-one schools. 38 of which are elementary schools, 8 are middle schools, 8 are high schools, 4 are alternative schools, 1 adult school, 1 special education school, and 1 charter school. For the school year ’06-’07, the school district will now be opened for 61,000 students. Over a hundred languages and/or dialects are spoken by the EGUSD students
