Granite School District is one of the largest districts in Utah next to Jordan School. It has 70,000 students that are enrolled in different programs. Granite School district caters to kindergarten, High schools, Junior High Schools
, Elementary Schools and Special Education Schools. The Granite School District supports the programs for talented and gifted special children. Under this program, an individual approach on the needs of each child is implemented. This program supports children starting from there kindergarten stage to high school.
Teachers from different ethnic backgrounds are present in this district. Some of them are Hispanic, Asian, and a few native Americans are also teaching in this district. Over the past years, the number of teachers at retiring age has been increasing, which led the district to launch the Great Beginnings Program. The Great Beginnings program is a 1-week workshop for the fresh teachers providing them with information on effective teaching using different techniques. There were around 70 teachers present in the program. These teachers received giveaways and stipends from the program.
The Granite School District is managed by its Board of Education. Each board member is elected by the voters from the Granite District. They may serve for four years in each term and be re-elected again. The Granite School District Board of Education decides on the district budgets, needs and policies to further improve the school services and strategically utilize the resources available to the district. During the meetings of the board, citizens are welcome to speak and have discussions with the board for there suggestions and queries. |
