The Jordan School District is the largest among Utah’s 40 school districts. The Jordan School District serves more than 80,000 k-12 students in its 90 schools. The unincorporated areas of the Southern Slat Lake County including 10 municipalities are encompassed by the district’s boundaries. The district reflects its commitment in providing a quality education through their students test scores. The test scores are consistently above state as well as the national averages. Their high school graduation rates are among the countries highest.
The Jordan School District, in its desire to facilitate the enculturation, retention and professional growth of its new teachers as well as to comply with the Utah law established a Mentor Teacher Program.
This program requires school principals to assign a trained mentor for their provisional teachers. A provisional teacher is the one who either holds a level two or a level three teacher during their first year of teaching in the Jordan School District. A provisional teacher also holds a Utah license of level one having less than three years of teaching experience. The mentor, as a sign of acknowledging their mentoring responsibilities, will sign a contract. The Mentor Teacher and Specialists will be available for the mentor consultation and training.
