Northside Independent School District, Texas

There are two known Northside Independent School Districts, one of them serves the San Antonio, Texas area and the other one serves the Wilbarger County, Texas area near Vernon.

The Northside ISD in the San Antonio area is based in Leon Valley, Texas and is one of the largest school districts in the area. It is also sixth placer in the State of Texas. It began with only 823 students but is now considered as the largest in South Texas.

This Northside ISD also provides educational services to small portions on the cities of Grey Forest, Leon Valley, Shavano Park, Helotes, Cross Mountain, Leon Springs, and Scenic Oaks. This district covers 355 square miles of land comprising of urban landscape, suburban growth and Texas hill country for over 81,000 student population. Something unique about this school district is its chosen method of naming their traditional high schools. The eight graders of each new high school’s first graduating class will research and nominate names of former or current United States Supreme Court Justices. The other Northside ISD; approximately 10 miles north of Vernon is located in the Wilbager County, Texas. It is a small, public school district created in 1936 after the consolidation of several smaller schools. The district’s single original campus was destroyed by fire in 1941, and a new building was created a year after.
