Puyallup School District Information

The Puyallup School District from the heart of Puyallup Valley is the ninth largest school district in the State of Washington. It employs approximately 1,330 certified and 850 classified staff and 300 substitute personnel to serve the educational needs of almost over 20,000 students in its 21 elementary schools, six junior high school, three senior high school and an alternative school.

Like most of all school districts, the Puyallup School District is also governed by a School Board, which duties includes formulating and interpreting educational policies, execute administrative duties, and appraise the progress of the district and provide evaluation to the Superintendent. They hold twice monthly public meetings usually every first and last Monday of each month.

On the 2006 Levy Information that was released by the district, it was indicated that the School Programs and Operation Replacement Levy was implemented to provide money to help the district in its daily operations and maintenance. Levy funding comprises 20% of the district’s total operating budget; the rest coming from state and federal funds. This is levy is being imposed also to help the district meet the state’s required level of basic education services; and this means being able to maintain acceptable levels of staffing and services.
