Katy Independent School District is a district for public schools. It is situated in Katy, Fort Bend County in the state of Texas, USA. It covers 181 sq. miles or 469 sq. kilometers stretching from parts in Harris County, Waller County and Fort Bend. This district has approximately 50,000 students enrolled in the area. Majority of the district is within the borders of Houston City and Katy City. Katy City is also known as the “Municipality’s Extreterritorrial Jurisdiction” or ETJ and the Fulshear City. The residential areas within the school district are subdivided by assignment. There are 6 high schools, 10 junior high schools and 29 elementary schools and 3 alternative education campuses.
The Katy Independent School District has a very rich history. The founding of the school district dates back in the year 1898. An elementary school and a high school were built in Sixth Street and Avenue A. After a year, they constructed a 1 room school made of wood. This 1 room school catered the needs of the students in all grade levels. Many campuses were established through the years. Currently, the district is planning to build 2 junior high schools. One is located in the north of “Mayde Creek High School” while the other school is at Wood Creek. |
