The El Paso Independent School District is situated in El Paso in the state of Texas. It is the largest school district in the Texas education Agency’s “Education Service Center Region 19”. It serves more than 63,000 students and houses over 90 campuses. It is the 7th largest district in the state of Texas and the 57th largest district in the US. It has over 9,000 employees and has a budget of $403 million annually. This district also provides education to the kids of the US Army.
The district’s superintendent is Dr. Lorenzo Garcia. He was appointed in Jan. 2006 by the board of trustees. He took over on the 1st of February of the same year. The district’s board of trustees comprises of 7 elected officials or board members and a superintendent. Every trustee represents 1 of the 7 districts that the El Paso Independent School district is divided into. This district is very rich in history. In the year 1889, the 1st kindergarten school in Texas was established. It was in 1916 when the 1st High School was established. The school was named “El Paso High School”. Other schools where established for the following years. In 2000, the “Chapin high School” was established. The district has notable alumni like Abraham Murray, the award-winning actor and Shoshanna Johnson, famed Iraq Prisoner of war. |
