The Little Rock School District or LRSD is a public school district that is located in Little Rock, Arkansas USA. It now has 64 schools and new schools are about to be built. LRSD has 5 high schools, 8 middle schools, 31 elementary schools, a pre-kindergarten/early childhood center, an alternative school, an adult learning center, an accelerated education center and a career technical center. The district has approximately 26524 students as of the school year 2005-2006. It has more than 3800 employees.
It was the former president Bill Clinton who participated in the celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the unification of Little Rock Central high School. The district has an annual budget of $284 million and can be increased depending on the programs and facilities that the district wants to implement. Seven elected members make up the district’s Board of Education like any other school district. Each member has a term of 3 years. The board had ratified a mission for the LRSD which is “To equip all the students with the skills and knowledge to realize their aspirations, think critically and independently, learn continuously, and face the future as productive contributing citizens”. This mission is accomplished through open access to a diverse, innovative and challenging curriculum in a “secure environment with a staff dedicated to excellence and empowered with the trust and support of our community". |
