The Clark County School District in Nevada places the fifth in the over-all school districts in the United States. This seven region school district covers the entire Clark County, Nevada including Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Mesquite, Laughlin, Blue Diamond, Logandale, Bunkerville, Goodsprings, Indian Springs, Mount Charleston, Moapa, Searchlight, and Sandy Valley.
The Clark County School District was founded 1956 as part of the Nevada Legislature mandate to consolidate all state school districts. It started with only over 20,000 student population but started to grow significantly beginning the 1990’s due to the influx of families moving into the Las Vegas area.
As much as 16 new schools have been built since the since the district began. Because of the increase of enrollees the district implemented a 5 track student body wherein the schools are running on a 12 month schedule. This strategy makes the schools 33% more available to students by letting 4 tracks hold classes while the fifth track is on a scheduled break. To accommodate more students, the district also setup additional portable classrooms while still being able to keep reduction of construction costs. Transportation services for students in the Clark County School District have been carefully studied to address air quality and heat concerns being operational in a desert where temperature can spike up to exceed normal tolerable degrees and into valleys where not much materials can be used as biodiesel. |
